The West is the Best (At Least for Tonight)

God, how many more Yankee-Orioles games can the civilized world take? Most people who visit this site know what my favorite team is, but this is past the point of absurdity. The season score to date (it's in the 8th inning of Tuesday night's game):

Yankees: 70
Orioles: 35

You know, those 35 runs isn't a terrible figure in almost seven games of work. It's almost right on their average per game. What is mind-bogglingly bad is those 70 runs in seven games. 70 runs!

Off the top of my head I can't think of a bigger disappointment than the Baltimore Orioles this year. Their high-water mark was five over .500 (10-5), and the last time they had a winning record was May 22 (20-19). Since that date they've gone 8-19; that's assuming a loss tonight.

As bad as it's been for O's fans and Yankee Haters to watch the Yanks' batters tee off on Baltimore pitching like . . . well, like the ball was actually on a tee, the ugliest aspect of tonight was the inability of Balitmore's pitchers to throw strikes.

By ESPN's count, the Orioles threw 205 pitches tonight. I don't know about you, but that number sounds pretty extreme. In any case, of those pitches 110 were strikes, 95 were balls. Those bushel of balls resulted in 13 walks. 13 walks!

Okay, I'm done with this game. Unfortunately, for those of us interested in watching decent baseball, the Yanks and O's have plenty games left this year. Fortunately, for insomniacs, we have found something guaranteed to put them to sleep.

My headline in this entry was in reference to the snoozers in the early time slots tonight in baseball, compared to the good baseball that is just underway. Here are the match-ups tonight based on "juice factor."

Yanks-Orioles: I think I made it clear above, no juice.
Sox-Twins: A decent amount of juice, I guess... Two playoff contenders. A snoozer of a game, however.
Mets-Reds: Very little juice.
Tigers-Royals: No juice.
Tampa-Toronto: The only reason this match-up has a drop of juice is Tampa's win streak, which continued tonight by the way.
Philadelphia-Montreal: Good God, no juice. Especially since it's in Montreal.
Atlanta-Florida: Minimal juice.
Cleveland-ChiSox: I could try and make a case, but I'm not going to bother. No juice.
Colorado-Milwaukee: You're kidding, right? NO JUICE!
Seattle-Texas: The M's have been pitching well, and playing better, but that doesn't mean this match-up has any juice. And this game is a snoozer, anyway. (Is this a bad baseball night or what?)
Pittsburgh-Houston: Getting warmer, but still nothing doing. Sorry juice.
Cubs-Cards: "Houston, we have found juice. I repeat we have found juice. Over."

I'm actually heading over to that game right now...

Damn, I'm having trouble getting through to MLBTV here... Give me a second...

Well, anyway my original point is that tonight the West is place we want to be, baseball-wise.

A's-Angles: Good amount of juice
Dodges-Giants: Very good juice

I can't say much for Arizona-San Diego, but I am interested in the Padres, and think they're a fun team to watch. So I have to give that game at least a little something.

So that's where I'll be turning my attention tonight if I could get this MLBTV to load.

Figures. I just got the hang of this wireless thing last night, and have been dying to combine the action of writing on this blog with watching games on this screen, while lounging on my couch.

Still waiting...

Still waiting...

Still waiting...

So, read any good books lately?

Just flew in from Chicago. And boy, are my arms tired...

Yeah.

Well it doesn't look like much is going on here tonight. But before I call it an entry (and oh what an entry this was), I want to call the football fans' attention to this site. Maybe the biggest football fan I know, and definitely a die-hard. So check it out. It's sure to be entertaining.

Enjoy your night, folks.
